The BRTA or Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has proposed an extension to the deadline for attaching manual number plates to the front of motorcycles. While the previous directive set a deadline of November 15, the new proposal seeks to extend this period until December 31.
This proposal takes into account the total number of motor vehicles registered in the country and the practical challenges involved in attaching number plates to such a large number of motorcycles. A document from the BRTA Chairman notes that there are approximately 6.8 million registered motor vehicles in the country, of which about 5 million—roughly 74 percent—are motorcycles. Attaching front number plates to such a vast number of motorcycles within the originally stipulated timeframe could prove difficult.

So we published Proposes Extension of Deadline for Attaching Front Number Plates to Motorcycles in BD.
Some days ago, a public notice issued by the BRTA had set November 15 as the deadline for attaching and displaying manual number plates on the front of motorcycles. The notice stated that, in accordance with the Road Transport Act, 2018, and the Road Transport Rules, 2022, motorcycles are required to display their registration number on the rear using a high-quality, reflective metal plate equipped with an authority-approved RFID tag. Actually In addition to this, it has been decided that the registration number must also be displayed on the front of the motorcycle.
According to BRTA guidelines, the front number plate for scooters must measure 200 millimeters in length and 100 millimeters in width. For other types of motorcycles, the dimensions are set at 285 millimeters in length and 50 millimeters in width. On both types of plates, the Bengali letters and numerals must be at least 20 millimeters in height.
There are also specific guidelines regarding the manufacturing of these number plates. The number plate must be made of stainless steel or aluminum. The background of the plate must be white, with the letters and numbers in black. Furthermore, no decorative elements or designs are permitted on the number plate. For motorcycles other than scooters, the registration number may be displayed in a single horizontal line.
In the initial phase, motorcycle owners are instructed to arrange for the installation of these front number plates in compliance with these guidelines. A previous public notice stated that legal action would be taken if the number plates were not installed within the specified timeframe.
