World-renowned safety gear brand Alpinestars has unveiled a new product in the motorcycle safety gear market. After a long period of research, the technology of adding airbags and crash detection AI to riding gear has finally seen commercial sales.
Alpinestars’ Tech-Air 5 Plasma airbag vest has been added with an ultra-slim design and AI-based crash detection technology. After first being shown in the United States earlier this year, it has now been opened for sale in international markets including Europe.

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma is essentially a new addition to Alpinestars’ existing airbag system line. The gears in this series have been designed keeping in mind a variety of riding situations, including street riding, commuting, track, off-road and motocross. This new riding vest can be used by both the rider and the pillion.
Alpinestars says the goal of creating this vest is to ensure safety while maintaining comfort and normal movement. It is also quite light in terms of weight. Tech-Air 5 Plasma is quite light. It weighs only 1.53 kg, which is about 25 percent less than its previous version. As a result, it is being called the lightest airbag vest system made by Alpinestars so far.
Due to its minimal design, it can be easily worn inside most riding jackets and does not hinder the rider’s movement. A significant advantage of this vest is the opportunity to change the gas inflator yourself. If the airbag unit is not damaged, the rider can change the gas inflator himself up to six times.
In countries where it is officially available so far, there will be no need to send the entire system to the service center after each activation, which will reduce both time and cost. In addition, advanced AI crash detection technology has been used in Tech-Air 5 Plasma. It has three different riding modes: off-road, street, and race track.
The mode can be easily changed through a small LED display button on the vest. It can be used even while wearing gloves. As a result, quick settings can be made without the app. There is no doubt that such new technology riding gear will minimize damage in accidents and save lives. However, it remains to be seen when this vest will come to Bangladesh and what the price will be.
