Motorcycle and car seat trim covers made in Bangladesh are being exported to Japan. There, complete seats are being made with these covers and supplied to various car and motorcycle manufacturers including Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
Bangladesh is making world-class motorcycle seat covers
These products are manufactured by Japanese company TS Tech Bangladesh Limited, located in the Adamjee Export Processing Zone of Narayanganj. The company started its operations in Bangladesh in January 2017. Currently, about 375 employees are working in the factory.
TS Tech Bangladesh mainly manufactures motorcycle and car seat trim covers. In addition, various plastic parts including car door and roof trims are also manufactured. The buyers of these products are various automobile and motorcycle manufacturers in Japan.
According to the company’s managing director Satoru Onishi, their major buyers in Japan include Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. In Bangladesh, the work of cutting raw materials, sewing and preparing various parts of the seat cover is mainly done. Later, the finished covers are sent to Japan. There, the complete seats are made and used in the relevant cars or motorcycles.
Production of more than 200,000 seat covers per year
Currently, about 206,000 seat trim covers are being produced annually at the TS Tech factory in Bangladesh. The company plans to maintain almost the same production volume next year.
In the factory, leather and other materials are cut according to specific designs and various parts are made. Then, they are sewn together to make seat trim covers. Most of the raw materials used in production come from Japan and China.
In the last fiscal year, the company exported products worth 14.75 million US dollars from Bangladesh. In other words, this automotive component produced in Bangladesh has already become a part of the international supply chain. Motorcycle Review
Increasing use of automation and 3D technology in production bike seat cover
TS Tech Bangladesh is gradually increasing the use of modern technology to increase production capacity. In August 2023, conveyor belts, automation systems and auto-lay machines were installed in the factory.
Some parts of the various jigs and auxiliary equipment used in the production process are also manufactured in the factory. Some of these equipment are being manufactured using 3D printing technology. The company aims to further improve productivity by increasing the use of technology.
Why is it important for Bangladesh?
Outside of the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh, the automotive component production and export sector is also gradually gaining importance. TS Tech’s activities are an example of this.
Especially the inclusion of Bangladeshi-made products in the supply chain of global brands such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki is important for the capacity of the local industry. If such production increases in the future, new opportunities for automotive component production, skilled manpower and export can be created in Bangladesh.
TS Tech currently operates 73 factories under 13 companies around the world. A total of about 141,000 employees work in these companies.
In addition to employment, various benefits have been introduced for employees at the factory in Bangladesh. About 60 percent of the company’s employees are women. A day-care center was opened inside the factory in 2025, where there are currently 19 children. Separate support arrangements have also been made for pregnant employees.
